How to Buy a Hot Tub

Spa size should be taken into consideration when paying attention to the available space for the hot tub unit. Select a location that is most convenient for you, but make sure that electrical installation and water supply is accessible. After choosing a location in your home for installation, and after taking measurements, find a Certified Cal Spas Dealer near you to experience Cal Spas in-person.

A Certified Cal Spas Dealer will be able to help you find a hot tub to fit within your budget. After considering the location in your home where the hot tub will be installed, and how many people plan to enjoy the hot tub, the dealer will then be able to show you models based on your specific needs.

After finding the perfect model, you’ll be able to add any premium upgrades such as sound systems, water features, lighting and accessories. Once your order is placed, your dealer will work with you on scheduling the delivery of your product and installation.

Another way to enhance your hot tub buying experience is by considering a contractor to help you install your hot tub. A diligent contractor can personalize your hot tub area and help landscape your backyard. Z628T Environment

We encourage spa shoppers to visit the Cal Spas Website to look around and have an idea as to what hot tub model they are leaning toward. It’s a great tool to toggle with before visit a showroom floor.

Happy Tubbing!

Hot Tub Sanitation: Salt or Ozone

Salt Chlorine and Ozone Generators are very popular options when it comes to sanitizing spa water. They reduce the need for harsh chemicals such as chlorine and increase water safety, leaving your spa water clean and crystal clear.Backyard Paver Patio with Garden Accessories

So, what is the difference between both hot tub sanitation systems? According to LoveYourHotTub.comall chlorine is made from salt. Salt Generators split salt and make the purest form of chlorine. While ozonators require no consumables. Ozone Generators simply take air, convert it to ozone, which reverts back to oxygen

Though a normal filtration system and regular maintenance of the spa water is sufficient enough, implementing a salt system or ozonator to your spa will benefit you in the long run. However, it must be noted that both systems require some sort of maintenance:

  • Salt Systems have cells that may get calcium build-up and require to be cleaned up and replaced over time. The salt cells can be pretty expensive to replace, do some homework to find out how much it would cost to replace before installing one onto your hot tub.
  • Ozone generators use ozone lamps that also need to be replaced over time. Replacements depends how often you use your hot tub.Santa Barbara 22

Salt Systems, even though they require expensive replacement parts, can function without much maintenance. Ozonators, unfortunately, cannot function on their own and require chlorine or additional chemicals to function properly.

The best way to choose the right sanitation system is to weight out how much time and money your willing to provide you hot tub. Which ever sanitation system you choose, a Cal Spas hot tub will provide years of enjoyment and around-the-clock filtration to make sure your hot tub is always ready to go when you are. Cascade Waterfall2

Hot tubs are really an anti-aging machine, reducing stress (the silent killer) will allow you to live a fruitful life. Combining a healthy lifestyle, with a balanced diet and soaks in a hot tub several times a week can assure healthy aging.11419217_461119850721611_527718327_n

September is Healthy Aging Month, encouraging adults over the age of 50 to think positively about moving forward and taking up activities that will help them age in a healthy way. It’s never too late to improve one’s physical, mental and social well-being through new ways of exercise and relaxation. A hot tub will benefit adults over the age of 50 by providing the following specific benefits from hot tubbing:

A Hot Tub Summer

This summer is geared up to be a scorcher! A 102° hot tub will probably not sound as appealing as it does right now. However, there are ways to make this summer A HOT TUB SUMMER. There are certain things you can do to enjoy you spa this summer without overheating your body. Just keep reading to find out how:

Normal body temperature is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, anything cooler than that will automatically feel refreshing. Setting your hot tub’s temperature around 90° would be a nice way to cool down in your hot tub. Remember, you don’t want to disconnect your tub as it needs to continue filtrating. Idle water inside the pipes could also cause corrosion which can then lead to bigger problems. S-525L Sml Environment

If you don’t want to lower your hot tub temperature, another option is to hot tub at night. Summer nights are usually much cooler, and you’ll be able to actually enjoy a warm hot tub instead of bearing the heat from the sun and the tub as well.

It’s not too late for that summer body! Anyone who has been in a spa before is familiar with the relaxing effects of hydrotherapy. The heat from your spa increases blood flow and promotes deep muscle relaxation, increasing your flexibility. Cal Spas recently introduced Hot Tub Yoga, demonstrated by professional yoga instructor Kelly Deva. Watch Kelly demonstrate basic yoga poses inside a hot tub that will stretch and soothe sore muscles, while straightening and targeting specific muscle groups.

Lifespan of a Spa Cover

A proper and diligent spa cover care routine can be the difference between needing to buy a replacement cover in 5 years instead of 6 years. Here are some tips to increase the lifespan of a spa cover:Z735L_Pacifica_Environ

  • Keep the cover clean. The vinyl needs to stay clean and conditioned. Use a very mild detergent and water solution to clean the vinyl portion of the cover at least twice per month to keep your spa looking great and help expand the life of your spa cover.
  • Wipe chemical residue from the underside of the cover every chance you get. These residues, if left on the cover, start to break down the material causing it to become porous.
  • Maintain proper spa water chemistry. The better your spa water chemistry is maintained the vapors coming off the tub will be less corrosive. Making the vapors less corrosive leads to the protective layers of the cover to degrade more slowly, and increasing the lifespan of your spa cover.
  • Unzip the cover and clean just inside the zipper at least twice per year. Mildew has a tendancy to build up here and if you have not kept your sanitizer levels up you may develop this as a problem.
  • Remove the cover for 20-30 minutes after shocking your spa water. As the shock is burning out the Chloromines and Bromimines in your spa, highly corrosive vapors are released. Following this tip will protect your covers materials from premature degradation.
  • Completely remove the cover at least once per week to allow the water to drain out of it. Always completely remove the cover while using your hot tub.coverdiagram-popup1

Cover life expectancy depends on a lot of factors including amount of direct sun the cover receives, is it cared for correctly or abused, how the spa chemical regimen is followed, and varying weather patterns.Cover-Girl-1024x638

Sanitizing Your Hot Tub

Some people look to hot tubs as a cost-effective alternative to pools. Yes, hot tubs provide the utmost relaxation and hydrotherapy benefits, but all hot tub owners should know that hot tubs aren’t small pools. Maintenance for swimming pools and hot tub water are very different and should be treated as such. It’s all about water chemistry.

New-Waterfall-White

Shock treatment, alkalinity, pH, hard water and sanitizers are all terms that can intimidate any new hot tub owner, however there is no need to fear! Hot tub water maintenance is quite simple.coleman spa 4

– Hot tub water is the perfect breeding ground for microorganisms and bacteria to breed if the water is not treated with the proper sanitizing system. Bacteria from our bodies, as well as airborne mold spores, algae, and even viruses can find their way into the water. Sanitizing systems such as bromine, can effectively destroy microorganisms and bacteria to keep your spa water safe and healthy to use.

– Shock treatment is the routine of applying a treatment to your spa water that oxidizes and diminishes dead organic material left behind from the sanitizing system, and material that is unable to be filtered such as dirt, soap, hair spray and perspiration. These contaminants provide a source of food for bacteria and algae if not treated correctly and in a timely manner. Regular shock treatments eliminate them and the organics on which bacteria feed.

– Alkalinity is measuring the ability of the water to resist changes in pH. Low alkalinity could cause a bigger problem than higher alkalinity. It’s smarter to adjust alkalinity before testing your hot tub pH. Maintaining the proper alkalinity will often bring the pH back to normal.

– Hard water is measured and caused by the amount of calcium dissolved in the water. Insufficient calcium hardness can sometimes promote equipment corrosion and also result in water foaming problems.Hydrotherapy

New Year’s Resolutions

The beginning of the New Year is the beginning of a fresh start. It’s the time to improve yourself, make changes in your life and take control. This is why many of us see the beginning of a New Year as the perfect opportunity to make a resolution to kick those bad habits. Unfortunately, New Year Resolutions are much easier made than kept.08_FitnessBandsLg

How do you keep a New Year’s Resolutions?

1.) Set a realistic goal for yourself – Many of us will choose “losing weight” as our resolution for the New Year. Be specific, know what you would like to achieve. Setting goals for yourself will make your outcome more accessible.

2.) Only make one resolution – You only get one wish per cake, not candle. Don’t overwhelm yourself with resolutions. Set one primary goal you would like to achieve and stay focused.

3.) Don’t wait for New Year’s Eve – Setting a resolution is a commitment. Making a spontaneous choice will not achieve great success as something you take time to contemplate about.

4.) Baby steps – Slow and steady wins the race. Set milestones, this way you will be able to keep track of your progress as you achieve your goal.

5.) Learn from your mistakes – So you made the same resolution as last year, that’s okay! Do not make the same mistakes, instead let that be your lesson.

6.) It won’t happen overnight – Success takes time. Progress takes time. Don’t rush it!

7.) Don’t mind the small stuff – We all face small hurdles along the way, don’t let them bring you down. Dust yourself off and try again.

8.) Get support – Create a support system around yourself. Let friends and family about your goal and have them help you reach your goal. Teamwork!

9.) Motivation – Keep focus and motivated. Remind yourself about the goal and why you want to reach it.

10.) Always work on your goal – Once you have reached your goal, keep working to maintain it.
